10 Floors That Are Literally Making a Statement
September 5, 2018

One design trend that has been popping up everywhere: word art made out of floor tile. Whether at our favorite bakery, coffee shop, or hotel bar, we've all seen the Insta-worthy examples — you've probably even snapped a pic or two showing off your fave pair of shoes in the process. But you shouldn't have to leave your house to share in all of the fun. And the best part is, if you don't want to spend the cash to have your floor art custom made, you can design it yourself using a program like Grid Paint. Here are 10 stylishly playful ways you can literally incorporate a statement-making floor into your own home. Let the #ihavethisthingwithfloors selfies begin.

1. Girls and Boys credit: Style at Home

Toronto-based designer Jenifer Glover designed this playful kids' bathroom. Each side of the youngsters' marble-topped double vanity is cleverly assigned by spelling out "Boys" and "Girls" on the floor in blue mosaic penny tile.

2. Hello Lovely credit: Instagram @joannagaines

Nope, this isn't in a hotel, but rather a cozy home designed by the one and only Joanna Gaines. Who wouldn't want to be greeted by these kind words every day?

3. No Diving credit: Shophouse Design

We are loving the retro vibe of this compact bathroom's "No Diving" floor. Shophouse Design paired black and white mosaic tile with white shiplap walls to finish off the cool, coastal look reminiscent of summers at the pool.

4. Rise Up credit: Kim Lewis Designs

Words to live by. Interior designer Kim Lewis transformed this tiny home's bathroom with a black clawfoot bathtub, sliding barn door, a hint of greenery, and an inspiring message spelled out in black tile on the floor.

5. Hello credit: Palmerston

Can we talk about this entryway landing designed by boutique interiors firm Palmerston? Greet visitors in style with the tile version of a welcome door mat that reads "hello."

6. You Look Good credit: Kim Lewis Designs

Designed by Kim Lewis, this tiny bathroom packs a stylish punch. And with black and white flooring this chic, you're pretty much guaranteed to leave with a smile from ear to ear. Okay, so maybe that's thanks to the compliment, but either way.

7. Oh Hey credit: RailiCA

Oh hey! Proof that mixing and matching tile is awesome. White mosaic tile looks sophisticated, while red letters surrounded by a black frame lend whimsy charm to this bathroom.

8. 614 credit: The Everygirl

Personalize the entryway using your street number. Interior designer Kathryn Ivey did just that with black and white hex tile, which makes the perfect backdrop for her vibrant red door.

9. Hello credit: Home Bunch

This welcoming mudroom designed by Bria Hammel pretty much had us at "hello." Pair that with the blue Dutch door, the floral print wallpaper accent, and the brass cabinet hardware, and voilà ... farmhouse perfection.

10. Hey Good Lookin' credit: Instagram @calikatrina

This fancy bathroom with gilded accents and a black clawfoot tub is giving us the full on glam treatment. But tbh, it's the self-confidence boosting message on the floor that really caught our attention.
